My first report from South America. The contrasts have been unreal and abrupt. From cold and icy Holland to friendly, sauve and hot capitol of Chile Santiago. And then on to the tropical island and it’s Polynesian people of Rapa Nui (Easter Island). Santiago is a colorful (literaly, lots of brightly coloured houses) and very family orientated city. Everywhere you look you see shiny happy parents playing with their little brads. We ate grilled grouper with laurel icecream. An exquisite combination. The Chilean contemporary architecture is a pleasure. Clear lines, a hint of modernity and exciting combinations of old colonial facades incoporated with new build parts and several vertical gardens. Easter Island is not the arrid, barren place I expected it to be. The grassy hills are extremely green, the sky very blue with dots of white clouds and there’s great light. The light that makes everything beautiful. It’s a photographers paradise. I expected the tragedy of the Rapa Nui people to be palpable. And although I saw human bones sticking out of the ground it’s a ‘peaceful’ place. There’s a new contrast on the horizon. Soon I’ll be flying to windy, cold and rocky Patagonia for some serious trekking.

I wish you all a very pleasant Christmas and a great New Years eve party.

I will skip the holidays and will be traveling through Patagonia, hoping that the strong Patagonian wind can blow some of the bedbugs away. May next year be a better year.

This song is hauntingly beautiful! A disturbing peak into the future. All my empathy goes to the ponies.

However I’m not so crazy about the clip. A good clip could have heightened the atmosphere. For me this one doesn’t.
